We are excited to announce we have secured planning permission to construct and install a floating pontoon attached to Railway house on the River Ouse in the center of York.

The pontoon will house our lifeboat and equipment in a prime location where it can be quickly assessed by the team to assist with emergency's on the river. Currently our boat lives afloat inside the Foss Basin, this however comes with its own challenges such as been forced to relocate when the Foss Barrier is in action or when low river levels make it inaccessible.

The pontoon will help increase the safety of our team when accessing the lifeboat by providing a stable platform that is well lit and is designed to stay clear of snow and ice.

We are very fortunate to have been donated a pontoon by the Canal and Rivers Trust who look after the River Ouse, because of their kind donation we are now a huge step further to having a permanent home for our lifeboat.

We also have plans to share the pontoon with York Sea Cadets enabling the cadets and leaders to safely access their boats when out training on the river.

We are now seeking to raise around £6500 to help modify the pontoon to our needs such as safety fencing and lighting and cover the cost of the installation, and we need your help to keep York's Rivers Safe.  Fortunately we have been nominated for the Aviva Community Fund and we need your help to secure enough votes to win.
